The coupon paradox at Her Fantasy Box

Most of what this brand sells costs between $6 and $20, and much of it is something you'd want to try once before committing. That makes the returns policy unusually important here — and it contains a line that changes how you should think about every code on this page.

Discounted price sales are final. Buy at full price and you have 30 days to send an unopened item back. Buy with a discount and that door closes.

What things actually cost

The subscription discount is advertised as "up to 15%", but the real range runs from 6% to 33% depending on the item — and it runs in the opposite direction to what you'd expect.

The deepest subscription saving on the whole site is on the cheapest wash: the Boric Balance foam drops a third, from $12.49 to $8.37. The most expensive thing on the site, the $174.98 Everything Bundle, comes down by 6%. Buying the big bundle on subscription saves you $10.50; buying four foam washes on subscription saves you $16.48.

If you subscribe to anything here, subscribe to the individual items you use constantly. The bundles are priced for one-off buying.

Free shipping starts at $45, not $99

Her Fantasy Box ships free on orders over $45. That's a low bar given the price list above — two or three items usually clears it, and there's no reason to build a $99 basket to qualify.

It's close enough to be annoying, though. The Her Fantasy Bundle at $37.99 plus a pack of Everywhere Wipes at $6.98 comes to $44.97, three cents short. Adding the cheapest single item rather than the second-cheapest is the difference between paying carriage and not.

And as always, apply the code and then check the total. A percentage discount that drops you from $47 to $43 has just cost you free shipping.

When a code is worth it, and when it isn't

Given that discounts void your return rights, the decision splits cleanly:

• Repeat purchase of something you already use. Take the discount, or better, subscribe. You're not going to return it, so the returns clause costs you nothing.
• First time trying a product. Pay full price. A 20% code on a $15.98 wash saves $3.20; the ability to return an unopened item you decided against is worth more than that.
• Buying a bundle or starter kit. This is where a code does most work in absolute terms, but also where you're risking the most on products you may not have tried. If you're new to the brand, a single item at full price is the cheaper experiment than a discounted $79.98 bundle you can't send back.

There's also a loyalty programme offering up to 10% back as credits, which applies whether or not you used a code — worth registering for before your first order rather than after.
