At HobbyKing, the warehouse matters more than the coupon

Most stores have one shipping policy. HobbyKing has six, and which one applies to you depends on a dropdown at the top of the site that many first-time buyers never touch.

Get that dropdown wrong and a 10% code saves you six dollars while costing you twenty in shipping. Get it right and you may not need a code at all. So before working through the offers above, it's worth understanding what actually determines your final price here.

Free shipping thresholds by warehouse

The EU warehouse is where this bites hardest. A buyer in Germany gets free shipping at $99; a buyer in Italy or Spain needs $159 for the same warehouse. That $60 gap is larger than almost any coupon on this page is worth.

The CN warehouse looks like the obvious answer at $29 worldwide, and for small accessories it usually is. But it excludes batteries and complete aircraft, caps at 6kg, and ships from China — so factor in transit time and, depending on where you live, the possibility of import duty on arrival. There's no coupon that offsets a customs bill.

The practical approach: check what your local warehouse stocks first. If the total lands just under the threshold, adding a cheap item to clear it beats applying a percentage code and paying carriage.

Why your battery has no shipping option at checkout

This is the single most common HobbyKing complaint, and it isn't a website fault. LiPo packs are dangerous goods, and the watt-hour ceiling varies by route:

• Australia, UK, USA, Hong Kong warehouses: 100Wh maximum
• Canada: 200Wh maximum
• Europe: 300Wh maximum

Battery shipping isn't offered from every warehouse at all, and even where it is, only selected carriers will take them. If your pack exceeds the cap for that particular warehouse-to-destination combination, the checkout simply shows nothing. No error, no explanation.

What to do: work out your pack's watt-hours (volts × amp-hours — a 6S 5000mAh pack is roughly 22.2V × 5Ah = 111Wh, which already exceeds the 100Wh limit), then either switch to a warehouse with a higher ceiling, choose a smaller pack, or split the order so batteries ship separately from the rest.

There's a second catch on the UK warehouse: batteries over 100Wh are excluded from free shipping entirely, regardless of order value. That exclusion list runs to 41 models and covers much of the popular range — Turnigy Nano-Tech Plus, Turnigy Graphene Professional and Panther, ZIPPY Compact, Rhino, mostly the XT90-connector packs from 4000mAh upward. If you're buying high-capacity packs in the UK, budget for carriage no matter what your cart total says.

The Bargain Bin carries the biggest discount and the biggest catch

The deepest percentage on this page comes from the Bargain Bin. Before taking it, know what you're trading.

Scratch & Dent items are sold as-is and are not covered by the HobbyKing warranty. Normal stock carries a full year on motors, servos, ESCs and RC products, and 182 days on batteries. Bargain Bin stock carries nothing.

That maths changes with the item. On a $15 servo or a set of props, cosmetic damage is irrelevant and the discount is free money. On a $200 brushless motor, an ESC, or anything with a flight controller in it, you are giving up twelve months of cover to save a fixed amount once. For batteries the calculation is worse still, because a LiPo that fails is the one component most likely to need the warranty.

What it costs to send something back

HobbyKing's returns terms are stricter than most retailers, and worth reading before you buy something you're unsure about:

• 30 days from receipt, item in pristine condition.
• You pay return shipping. HobbyKing does not issue courier pickup slips or prepaid return labels.
• Opened packaging means an 80% refund. A 20% deduction covers repackaging and inspection — so opening the box to look at something costs you a fifth of its value.
• Batteries must be unused — neither charged nor discharged — with the yellow warranty tag still attached.
• Crash damage, misuse and modifications are not covered. Neither are Scratch & Dent items.
• Inspection takes 7–15 business days after the warehouse receives the item, with settlement after that.
• You must open an RMA, and the case closes automatically if you don't respond within 45 days.

The 80% rule is the one that catches people. If you're deciding between two motors, buying both to compare and returning one will cost you 20% of the loser's price. Better to ask in the HobbyKing forum first.

Where a coupon genuinely helps

Given all of the above, codes are worth most in three situations:

• Large builds from a local warehouse. Once you're comfortably past the free-shipping threshold, a percentage code is straight savings with nothing clawed back.
• Non-battery, non-aircraft orders. These are the categories most often excluded from promotions, so a cart of electronics, hardware and accessories is where codes actually apply.
• Stocking up rather than one-off buys. HobbyKing's shipping economics reward consolidation. One $150 order beats three $50 orders every time, whatever code you hold.

For a single small item, no code will beat simply ordering from the CN warehouse over $29 and waiting.
